Letting Go

When everything that could possibly be said
Has been spoken,
Our mouths have smiled, our eyes have cried,
And hearts have been broken,
What is there left to do
But just walk away
When all that's left of something so complex
Is simply naught but pain?
Life goes on.
We grow and change,
But something deep within remains,
So how can it be
That these times have gone
When once upon a time you were the one?
But then did you ever really forsee
An ending other than this?
Maybe in another life
We could've watched a sunset
Under a tree in each other's arms
Sharing our first kiss.
Maybe it could once have been that way
Or maybe it was never to be,
But I hope you never in your life forget
How dear you are to me.
